Fisher signs with Thunder
Following Gilbert Arena’s signing with Memphis, another veteran guard in Derek Fisher has been signed by Oklahoma City. Fisher, traded to Houston Rockets from LA and the waived by the Texan team, says he is not “here to tell them what to do” but rather offer leadership and advice. Fisher brings some much needed championship experience to the young Thunder, and will no doubt be incredibly helpful in Russell Westbrook’s development into a more well-rounded point guard. He also brings clutch shooting to the Thunder, and is used to playing with a superstar, which may allow him to gel very easily to Thunder forward Kevin Durant. However he’s greatest impact will probably be found in the locker room. Derek Fisher knows how to win a championship, knows what is required from a team. It will be interesting to see if Fisher wins another championship before Kobe Bryant does, and adds a new layer to the playoff race in the West.
One thing is for certain, it’s highly unlikely that Fisher is going back to LA now. We will see tonight how it will all work out, with Fisher suiting up against the Clippers.
